Read a statute or a section
Give your assistant the title, jurisdiction, and section number if you know them. Crito can find matching titles, then retrieve the text of a document or a specific section with a link to the official source.
Use Crito to read section 265 of the federal Criminal Code and link to the official source.
A long document may return a table of contents. Choose the section you need and ask your assistant to read it. If a section is not found, check the returned text and source rather than assuming the requested section was retrieved.
Current text and past versions
Crito requests legislation text from the source when you ask to read it. Federal text comes from the Department of Justice’s published data; Provincial text comes from each province’s legislation service. The federal title index is cached.
The text is only as current as the source publication. Open the source link to check the version date. An older decision may refer to wording that has since changed.
Crito has no date filter for historical versions and does not return repealed British Columbia legislation. Use the official source’s version history when you need the law as it read on a past date.
